Market Monster Smoothie!

Don't let the name of this scare you away. It's a treasure trove of nutrition, helps with seasonal allergies, and tastes super yummy.

I found this recipe on a farmers market website and tinkered around with it for a bit. I ma sorry I do not remember which one, but I want to shout out MAHALO! to the lady who started my mind going...

I am not a huge cantaloupe fan, but sometimes, I need something totally different, and I was looking for a way to help with my seasonal allergies without having to drink yet another cup of tea!

I used herbs that help with allergies in a tea as the base instead of nut milk or something else.

Nettles are excellent for nourishing your whole body physiologically. They are super nutritious and can even aid in helping to stop cravings for protein if you're trying to not eat much meat.

The biggie here is Elder Flower - an excellent herbal tea for helping with spring or autumn induced allergies. I cannot tell you exactly how it works, but it does help them from getting out of control. Clients have reported back to me that it does indeed help! Aah, the magic of herbs.

Originally this recipe was using only fresh ingredients found at the farmers market mixed with tea.
I added a few "non local market" items for here in Chicago and came up with this.
Try it out, you may be surprised :)

Market Monster Smoothie

half of a ripe cantaloupe
a large bunch of kale ( about 2 C.)
1 TBSP flax seeds or flax seed meal
2 dates
1 frozen banana (makes it creamy)
a pinky nail of fresh ginger - if you like ginger please add more
3 coconut water ice cubes
1 c. herb infusion (tea) of nettles and elder flower - a TBSP of each - cooled

All the ingredients are here - except the ginger root piece which I already put in the vitamix with my tea.

Put all the ingredients into a high speed blender and well, blend and enjoy!

Looking forward to try more market inspired smoothies as we have more available in the city at our markets.

Love to you,
